How do I care for St Augustine sod?
St Augustine Sod needs basic lawn care including fertilization, watering, and mowing.
Raleigh St Augustine Sod is a medium green color and has a dense medium texture.
St Augustine only goes dormant if the soil temperature drops below 55 degrees and will turn a pale green and slow growth.
Caring for your lawn:
- Fertilization: Twice annually, usually a 16-4-8 (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium mix) in the Spring and 10-10-10 (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium mix) application in the fall
- Watering: During hot summer months, requires about 1" of water per week, including any rainfall.
- Mowing: Try to keep the height of your grass between 2" to 4" during the growing season, you'll want to leave it slightly higher in the fall & winter months to promote deeper root growth.
Note: Because it is a very dense thick grass, St Augustine is pretty good at keeping the weeds away. While drought tolerant, it is less likely to survive a prolonged drought.
