How do I care for Tiff Bermuda sod?
Tifway Bermuda Sod needs basic lawn care including fertilization, watering, and mowing.
Tiff Bermuda Sod, known by landscapers as Tifway 419, is a greyish green color and has a medium fine texture that thrives in full sun.
Note: In winter, the grass will go dormant and have a light tan color - this is perfectly normal and it is not dead.
One of the benefits of this type of sod is that it can be planted year round, including when it is in its dormant state.
Caring for your lawn:
- Fertilization: Needs 6-8 lbs of nitrogen per 1000 sqft for optimum growth once in early spring and again in the fall
- Watering: Water every three days, ensuring that 1" of soil beneath the surface is sufficiently soaked.
- Mowing: During the growing season, you'll need to mow every 4 to 7 days and keep the height of your grass between 1/2" to 1"
While this type of grass has excellent weed resistance, it is possible for existing weeds in the soil where your home is built to penetrate the sod. Pulling the weeds from your sod as soon as you notice them will help keep the spread under control.
Characteristics of Tifway 419:
- Excellent Hot Weather Tolerance
- Low Shade Tolerance
- Excellent Wear Resistance
- Very Good Salt Tolerance
- Excellent Recovery from Injury
