How do I lubricate my garage door?
There are 5 basic steps required to maintain your garage door.
Garage Door Maintenance:
- Garage door should be fully closed before maintenance begins
- WD-40 is only recommended to clean components prior to lubricating and should not be used as a stand-alone solution for noise.
- Use a White Lithium Grease or Silicone Spray for rollers & bearings. Lube all steel rollers and tracks to allow door to come down smoother and prevent binding/skipping.
- Use a Silicone Spray or any approved lubricant for garage doors for all hardware and moving parts.
- Spray all hinges, torsion spring at top, cable pulleys and chain drive to the opener.
- Prevent over-spraying by holding a piece of cardboard behind each component as you spray.
- Open & close your garage door a couple times to allow the lubrication to spread evenly
Tip: Maintenance should be performed at least every 4-6 months.
