How do I use a heat pump system?
Heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative from traditional heating systems. Using a heat pump will save money in the form of reduced energy bills as compared to either straight electric or propane heat.
SET THE THERMOSTAT AND FORGET IT
Determine both a heating and cooling setting you find comfortable and stick with them.
Tip: Do not develop a habit of constantly adjusting the settings.
Since a heat pump utilizes two separate sources of heat, the outdoor unit and the indoor heat strips, repeated changes to the thermostat in the heating mode can cause excessive utility consumption.
Important: Do not setback the temperature in the heating mode.
Although it may be tempting to utilize the setback functions of your programmable thermostat, try to avoid temperature swings in the heating mode.
Your heat pump will use more electricity trying to recover from temperature swings than it would have used to maintain one set temperature.
